I just learned that my whole business plan was completely and utterly illegal. On a federal level.
Well, not all the plan. I still can create the Everything But the Milk kits with all the ingredients you’ll need to make your homemade raw goat milk formula. Without the milk.
But I really, really, want to make it accessible for you to get EVERYTHING including the raw goat milk.
I’ve been looking up shipping costs on frozen gallons of milk, how dry ice works, thinking about contacting Meyenberg (the nation’s most popular producer of commercial goat milk) to see if they could partner with me for a raw milk line.
However, it is currently illegal to sell raw milk from state to state. So if you live in Louisiana, or Montana, or Nevada, or Iowa (all states where sale of raw milk is illegal), you can’t purchase it from another state either, because that state can’t ship it to you and you can’t transport it across state lines. Make sense?
Here’s the legal mumbo jumbo (side rant – FDA, I really hate you more than ever right now!! This is getting personal, and I am plotting my revenge...) – okay, really, now is the low-down on regulation 21 CFR 1240.61, which states “no person shall cause to be delivered into interstate commerce or shall sell, otherwise distribute, or hold for sale or other distribution after shipment in interstate commerce any milk or milk product in final package form for direct human consumption unless the product has been pasteurized….”
The FDA is preventing farmers from shipping their raw milk out of state, which prevents larger sales and profits. The FDA is preventing moms like me, like you, from accessing raw milk nutrition and benefits if they live in a state that doesn’t allow the sale of raw milk. And last, but not least, the FDA is preventing me from helping other moms nationwide who are looking for a feeding alternative to commercial formulas find that solution in a raw goat milk formula!
Who would have thought the government would care so much about MILK!? I mean, okay, there are bacteria involved. But have you seen or researched the conditions of the cows on the megafarms shooting out our “legal” grocery store milk? Of course that milk needs pasteurization. It’s disgusting from sad, hormone-injected, crowded, inhumanely treated cows. The sanitary regulations for raw milk farms are much higher.
I just can’t believe that Coke, Cheetos, and Cheerios are legally crossing state lines, while God’s green creation, beautifully natural and nutritious raw milk is being sequestered and quarantined to these states.
I’m sick right now. And it’s not from drinking raw milk, either.
On the positive note, there is something we can do. Senator Ron Paul (like him or leave him) is fighting the good fight on this one, trying to repeal this regulation with some new legislation – the bill HR 778, would allow the interstate transport and sale of raw milk and give us all our raw milk freedom back!
And say your prayers at night, Americans. Pray that the FDA is de-throned, the pharmaceutical companies grow a conscience, and somebody hoards some decent God-made seeds somewhere before the genetic scientists take over our entire food source.
